How To Care for Your Hardwood Floor
What to do:
- Sweep or light dust mop floor regularly.
- To occasionally wash floor or remove spills that have set, use a damp mop or soft cotton cloth.
- Place mats at exterior doors to trap sand and grit from incoming traffic.
- If using area rugs, avoid rubber-backed or other non-ventilated rugs. All rugs should allow floor to breath.
- Install proper protectors on 'feet' of furniture.
- Depending upon wear, floors should be recoated every few years to maintain its original protection and lustre.
What Not To Do
- Don't let sand or grit build up on floor.
- Never wet mop a wood floor.
- Do not use wax, ammonia based cleaners, or oil soap products on the floor. These products can damage or dull the finish and make future cleaning difficult.
- Avoid walking on your floor in high heels, or dragging heavy or sharp objects on the floor. The can severely damage the surface of any floor covering.
If you take care of your floor, it will last a lifetime.
If your floor is regularly maintained, and the polyurethane coating is not worn through, the floor can be lightly screened and recoated without the need to scrape off the old coating down to the bare wood. Call Inter County Flooring to get an estimate.
